About

We picked the number first.

Most management companies grow until the service quietly thins out, and nobody can point at the week it happened. We decided where the line was before there was a company to draw it around.

The decision

It came before the company did.

Ultara Stays began with a portfolio that was already working. Bill had been hosting for seven years, with a lifetime rating just shy of perfect and a reply inside the hour every single time, and the Whitefish homes were performing at the top of their tier.

The obvious next move was to take on more. Ten becomes twenty, twenty becomes fifty, and somewhere in there the thing that made it work stops working. Everyone in this industry has watched it happen. Most of them are still doing it. So we set the limit before we set the company: ten homes in the Whitefish area. Not ten this year. Ten. Four are placed, a fifth is in onboarding, and after that we are closed, and we will say no to homes we would genuinely like to manage.

Who we are

Two people, and a team you will meet.

Small enough that you will know the name of whoever is in your house, and small enough that they will know how you take your coffee.

Bill

Co-founder · Hospitality

Seven years hosting and an Airbnb Superhost badge that has never lapsed. He is the reason all four Whitefish homes are Guest Favourites, and he is the standard the rest of this is measured against.

Chris

Co-founder · Marketing and revenue

Runs the side of this that owners see in a statement: pricing, distribution, the direct-booking channel, and the photography and copy that make a home look like a brand rather than a listing.

Two things needed here. Real photographs of both founders, because stock imagery on an About page destroys exactly the trust this site is built to earn, and this is the page where a cautious homeowner decides whether to believe us. And a third profile for whoever is physically in Whitefish: the turnover lead, the person who reaches a house in twenty minutes. For an owner reading this page, that is the most important person on it, and right now they are missing.

Why here

Whitefish earns all three seasons.

Very few mountain towns do. Most have a winter, and a shoulder season doing an impression of a summer. Whitefish has three hundred inches of snow on the hill above town, a lake at the end of the main street, and a national park twenty-five miles east that drew more than three million people last year. Three genuinely different reasons to come, and an airport twenty minutes south.

It is also still small. The valley rewards knowing people, and it punishes operators who treat it as a market rather than a place. That suits a company that only ever wants ten homes in it.

How we work

Three things we hold to.

01

Say the number

A promise you can verify beats a promise you have to trust. We would rather be held to arithmetic than to adjectives, which is why the cap is published rather than implied.

02

Say no out loud

We publish who we are not for. A cap nobody can see us honour is not a cap, it is a marketing line, and this industry has enough of those.

03

Show, do not announce

We never call anything luxury. We stock the coffee bar so nobody's first morning starts at a supermarket, put a milkshake mixer on the counter, and let guests decide what to call it.

Seven years of hosting behind it, a lifetime rating just shy of perfect across nearly eight hundred reviews, and a Guest Favourite badge on every house in the collection.

Either way

Come and stay, or hand us the keys.

Both conversations start the same way, with a person reading what you wrote.
